Do you need a perfect clarity grade for a diamond?

A diamond’s clarity grade is assigned along a diamond clarity chart or scale, getting lower the more flaws the diamond has and how prominent they are. Diamonds with perfect clarity grades are extremely rare and shockingly expensive. The good news is, you don’t need a perfect clarity grade if your goal is to buy a beautiful diamond.

What is a diamond clarity scale & chart?

Diamond Clarity Scale/Chart (as defined by GIA) is segmented into 6 groups & 11 grades, from FL-Flawless (cleanest and most expensive), to I3-Included 3 (visible inclusions included, cheapest and lowest quality). Most diamonds fall into the VS (very slightly included) or SI (slightly included) groups.

Is a high clarity diamond worth it?

Many diamond inclusions and blemishes are too tiny to be seen by anyone other than a trained gemologist. At the same time, a high diamond clarity grade doesn’t guarantee that a diamond will look beautiful to the naked eye. Other factors, like cut quality and color, can significantly impact a diamond’s beauty.
